India is making waves on the global stage with its remarkable growth in milk production, surpassing the world average by a staggering margin. With an annual growth rate of more than 5.9 percent, India’s dairy industry is thriving, outpacing the global average of just two percent. This remarkable feat marks a significant milestone, with India’s growth rate nearly three times higher than that of the rest of the world.
The surge in milk production isn’t confined within India’s borders; it’s also making waves internationally. Indian dairy products are gaining traction in foreign markets, with demand spanning across approximately 150 countries. In the fiscal year 2022-23 alone, a whopping 65 lakh tonnes of dairy products were exported, highlighting India’s growing influence in the global dairy trade.
The exponential growth in milk production is evident in the numbers, showcasing a remarkable journey of progress. From producing 1463 lakh tonnes of milk in 2013-14, India has witnessed a substantial increase to 2306.0 lakh tonnes in 2022-23. This surge marks the highest spike in milk production since independence, underscoring India’s pivotal role in meeting the world’s growing demand for dairy products.
