Learn how our GLC is revolutionising rural economies with Hydroponic Vertical Farming, job creation, & up-skilling local talent for a fulfilling career
At Shunya, our Growth and Logistics Centre (GLC) stands as a beacon of agricultural innovation and social empowerment. Here, we are creating meaningful opportunities for semi-skilled labor, many of whom are transitioning from traditional farming practices or seeking organized employment & long term careers.
We recruited Sachin who was referred to us by the village Pramukh as a hardworking individual who was otherwise looking to migrate to Kanpur, Lucknow or Mumbai. Sachin is a good fit and it was evident in our first interaction. He owned a smart phone with internet connectivity with usage of many apps and that immediately helped us establish him as a digital native.
Through use of our proprietary system, Vidhi, that he accesses on his Android Smart Phone, we enabled Sachin to streamline his daily tasks, maximizing seed-to-harvest productivity. Today, Sachin & Deependra, who was hired from the local community through a recruitment drive, function together like an efficient machinery whose efforts keep our GLC running on clock.
We provide these individuals not only with formal employment & its benefits like insurance and provident fund, but also the chance to enhance their skills. There is also the pride of working in an organised setup complete with a uniform & IC Card. To top it, they get immense respect in the community for being employed in the local “factory”.
If not for such an opportunity, hardworking & resourceful talent would have moved to an urban centre to take up marginal employment, that would have robbed us and the village of a great talent pool while piling on the stress on the resources in the urban centre. Today, by deciding to stay back in their villages, Sachin & Deependra lead happier & more prosperous lives than the nearest possible alternative.
Hence, we believe that our GLC does more than just pump out Green Fodder —it empowers local communities by ensuring they have access to fresh fodder while providing gainful employment to local talent. And as we scale, more youths will be engaged directly or indirectly like in logistics, sourcing etc.
As we look toward the future, we aim to further formalize the upskilling process by partnering with academic institutions. This collaboration will offer formal skill recognition, making associate roles more aspirational and helping our current workforce take the next step in their careers.
This dual focus on technological innovation and community upliftment is driving us forward, as we continue to transform agriculture and improve livelihoods in rural India. We look forward to many such organisations & startup taking similar steps to engage the rural workforce and help them realise their true potential.
